Who we are
The Hellenic Mountain Leaders Association (HMLA) is the first professional body in Greece representing certified Mountain Leaders. Its members have completed the official vocational training recognized by the Ministry of Education and hold the certification of EOPPEP, the national authority for professional qualifications.
HMLA Mountain Leaders are properly trained to lead outdoor recreational activities in accordance with the requirements of Greek legislation. Their work is grounded in safety, professionalism, and responsible guidance.
Our aim is to bring together all graduates of the Mountain Leader specialty, to strengthen an active professional community, and to support the ongoing development of their skills. We are committed to promoting high safety standards and best practices, aligned with internationally recognized guidelines for outdoor leadership.
Network and Partnerships
HMLA is an active part of a broader national and international network that promotes responsible outdoor leadership. We collaborate with institutions and organizations that share our values of safety, education, and the protection of the mountain experience, contributing to the ongoing advancement of professional standards.
Since November 2025, HMLA has been a full member of UIMLA, the international organization that sets shared, high-level standards for the training and cooperation of professional Mountain Leaders worldwide.
The Association has also been a member of ΟΦΟΕΣΕ since 2019. Founded in 1935, the federation supports outdoor activities, mountaineering, and ecotourism across Greece through collaborations with cultural and environmental organizations.
